Parkour Podcast. EP 1. A Conversation with Victor LoForte

Victor LoForte is a good friend and has been training parkour for about 9 years without any major injuries. After all this time he's still going strong. In our conversation we covered:
  • How he got started
  • How his training has changed over time
  • The variety and depth of training possible with some of the most basic parkour movements
  • The importance of exploring the environment over just making videos and doing short runs.
  • How to plug into your environment
  • How running can be a diagnostic tool
  • The importance of running, swimming, climbing in our parkour practice
  • How the modern way of living has become disconnected from our human history.

  1. I understand we are not designed. What I meant is that, like a hawk flying through the sky, we have come to be animals of a certain skillset and ability, to such an extent that, in a way, it has physically changed us, and to not pursue those skills and abilities, one, leaves us more vulnerable in many different ways, two, cuts us off from our environment, and three, renders many of the body's top tools useless, or allows for them to atrophy in ways, and along with them the mental components that come along with them, things that we have come to rely on to maintain good health, happiness, survivability, safety, and freedom. However, I believe that the most important thing in life is to follow your heart and to do so using your head. I just want people to run with, share with, and to have my back. If a man is drowning, I don't want to be the only one to be able to save him. If the path gets challenging, I don't want to be the only one who can continue forward. If somebody needs to be defended, I don't want to have to be the only one to be able to act. But I will be if I have to. Earth is a place of mountains, rivers, storms, wild animals, natural disasters, crime, danger, mistakes, accidents, adventure, misunderstanding, terrorism, business, and much much more. The idea is, if you're on a boat in the middle of a vast ocean, though sinking will probably never happen, you should proooobably know how to swim ;)

    1. Embarrassing lol, I always come across as a bumbling idiot who believes there's only one right way to live for everyone, and that way is my way. Oh well, next time. I'M LEARNING! <3
